Learn English
Do you need help?
Learn English at Home (LEAH) is a charity which has over 120 trained volunteer tutors who help people to learn English language skills in the home or small groups. In 2019 our clients came from over 64 different countries and spoke more than 49 languages.
Anyone who cannot access formal classes and lives in the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond or Hounslow can apply. Here's how it works:
Make a referral
Tell us why you can't go to college: Do you have a baby at home? Do you have health issues? Is your English very low level? Complete this online referral form or call 020 8255 6144.
Learn English
A volunteer will support you learn English by phone, online video or we can send you activities by post and when you are ready you can join one of our small online group classes.
Feel more confident
With our help you will learn to telephone the doctor, speak with teachers at school, go to the library, travel on a bus and be more involved in the community.
Move on with your life
When your English is better you can explore other opportunities like going to college, taking the UK citizenship test, volunteering and eventually employment.
