On Thursday 4 January many friends, family and colleagues of Freda Lambert gathered at Kingston Quaker Centre to commemorate and celebrate her life. Freda, who was a LEAH trustee for over 30 years and Chair for 22, sadly passed away in December.
The humanist ceremony was hugely touching and brought together memories of Freda's life, poetry and music.
Jeannette Hall, LEAH's first staff member, spoke of Freda's determination and support in transforming LEAH as an organisation, and many trustees and staff past and present were there or contributed their memories. In her life, Freda was reluctant to accept praise, but we were able to pay tribute to her at this service.
Freda Lambert Appeal
We are very pleased to have renamed the Freda Lambert Appeal, launched last year, the Freda Lambert Memorial fund. We're hugely grateful that so many of her friends and family have chosen to make donations in her memory.
With income raised offline from November's quiz and support from Kingston Liberal Synagogue, in addition to donations in Freda's memory, the fund now stands at over £4000.
All of this income will be used to train LEAH volunteers, continuing the work which Freda valued and supported for over 30 years.
We've been touched by the beautiful comments left by many of those making online donations to the fund:
"In memory of a lovely lady who made a big impact on our lives as she has done for many others"
"In memory of Freda. Intelligent, fair, kind and a person I will always admire"
"In memory of a very special lady and the great work she did that others will continue to build on".
