We are really saddened to learn that Freda Lambert, LEAH’s long-term trustee and supporter, has passed away. Freda has been part of the LEAH family for over 30 years, was Chair of Trustees for 22 years until two years ago and a trustee until 30th November this year.
Freda was extremely self-effacing and shied away from praise but we are so pleased that we were able to thank her long-term commitment to LEAH at last week’s volunteer Christmas gathering. You can see her here with our Director, Kate, who had just presented her with flowers. Kate says “It was an honour and a pleasure to work with Freda; she was always considerate and, as you got to know her, one found both a warm sense of humour and an underlying steely determination and commitment to the things that were important to her, including LEAH and its work”
Joan McConn, also a former trustee and colleague of Freda’s for many years, pays tribute to her: “Freda steered LEAH from the early days by chairing meetings of volunteers in the North Kingston Centre old kitchen to overseeing the employment of six staff in our own place today. Freda was always fully engaged in our work. She has always offered a moderate voice and been very thoughtful in her response to ideas and plans to further LEAH's aims. Always firm, fair and welcoming to others’ ideas, and excellent at encouraging initiative”.
We know that many of the volunteers and supporters who worked with Freda over the years will have memories of her and tributes to pay and we are keen to collect these to pass on to Freda’s family. If you would like to contribute a message or memory, please email email@example.com.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Freda at Kingston Quaker Centre on Thursday, 4 January 2018 at 3pm. If anyone wishes to attend, all would be welcome.
