"I became a volunteer tutor because when my parents came to this country they didn't speak much English and when I was small I had to translate for them. I want to help people learn English so they can use it in their everyday lives.
Also my children were getting bigger and I was thinking of what I could do when they grew up. I was interested in becoming a teacher of some sort, perhaps in a secondary school and I thought LEAH would give me an opportunity to see whether I liked teaching.
Volunteering with LEAH has helped confirm that I want to work in the area of education specifically with teenagers and adults. I am now working in learning support at a local FE college and my volunteering experiences with LEAH are proving to be very useful "
